Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu on Tuesday felicitated Ophthalmic Officer Sappati Vasantha Rao on his nomination as a member of the State Allied and Health Care Council under the Ophthalmic Sciences Professional category.

The Minister commended Mr. Vasantha Rao for his dedicated service over the past two decades, during which he organised eye camps in remote areas of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. He emphasised the need to conduct more eye camps in rural areas to address vision-related problems among the elderly.

Mr. Naidu said that Mr. Vasantha Rao’s experience could now be utilised at the State level through his role in the Council, which functions under the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department.

Mr. Vasantha Rao stated that his eye awareness programmes had enabled many illiterate persons to identify and treat eye-related issues at an early stage. Currently serving in Perumali village of Terlam mandal in Vizianagaram district, he has previously received several awards for his social service initiatives, including the adoption of Timmayyapeta village in the Rajam Assembly constituency.
