The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 492 motorists during a two-day special drive against drunk driving conducted on February 20 and February 21.
Of those caught, 412 were two-wheeler riders, 29 were three-wheeler drivers and 51 were driving four-wheelers and other vehicles.
In a separate weekend enforcement drive, the Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 243 offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 189 were two-wheeler riders, 13 were three-wheeler drivers, 40 were four-wheeler drivers and one was driving a heavy vehicle.
If a person driving in an intoxicated condition causes a fatal accident, it would carry a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine, said Cyberabad police. They also stated that between February 16 and February 21, 236 drunk driving cases were disposed of by courts in Cyberabad limits. Nine persons were awarded fine and jail, six were levied a penalty along with social service, and only penalty was imposed on 221 others.
