Bharatiya Janata Party  (BJP) leader and former MLC P.V.N. Madhav has emerged frontrunner in the race for the BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president post by filing five sets of nominations, signalling strong internal support and backing from the party’s top brass.

The nomination process marks the beginning of the BJP’s internal elections in Andhra Pradesh, as the party gears up for a leadership reshuffle following the recent Assembly polls.

The nominations were submitted in the presence of MP P.C. Mohan, who is overseeing the election as the official observer, and Rajya Sabha MP P.V. Satyanarayana, acting as the election officer.

Both scrutinised the documents and verified the participation of eligible voters from the party’s state council. The nomination process was supervised by BJP State general secretaries Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy, Garapati Seetharam Anjaneya Chowdary, Bitra Shivannarayana, and Sagi Kasi Raju.

Several heavyweight BJP leaders were present Mr. Madhav filed the nomination papers. Among those present were Shiv Prakash, National Joint general secretary (Organisation);  Daggubati Purandeswari, outgoing BJP State president; Union Minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma; MPs C.M. Ramesh, Somu Veerraju (MLC and National Executive Member).

The BJP State legislative leadership was also in attendance, with Medical and  Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, BJP Legislature Party leader P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, and MLAs Dr. Parthasarathi, Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy, and N. Eeshwara Rao voicing their support.

With the internal election process now under way, political observers note that Mr. Madhav is widely seen as the consensus candidate, with strong organisational experience and proximity to the RSS.

His potential elevation comes at a time when the BJP is seeking to expand its grassroots presence and capitalise on its alliance with the TDP-JSP combine in Andhra Pradesh.
