The 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will transition to players auction system replacing the traditional draft system, Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Monday.

The shift from draft to players auction is part of the larger reforms announced by PCB for competitive balance and greater earning opportunities for players.

Apart from the players auction, the total purse of the franchise has also been increased to USD 1.6 million instead of USD 1.3 million.

“The PSL will now transition from a draft to players auction system which should increase transparency and enhance the competitive balance of teams in the league,” PSL CEO Salman Naseer said.

What are the new Pakistan Super League (PSL) reforms?

With the introduction of players auction, PSL is going to have a new players acquisition system as stated by PCB in the press release.

Under the new rules, Each franchise may retain a maximum of four players, limited to one player per category.

Previously, every franchise was allowed to retain 8 players from their squad including a Mentor, a Brand Ambassador and a Right to Match Option to retain a 9th player in the Player Draft. Now, the mentor, brand ambassador and right to match option has been abolished going forward.
