U.S. Vice President JD Vance was escorted to Islamabad by multiple Pakistani fighter jets as he arrived in the capital ahead of ceasefire negotiations with Iran to end the hostilities in West Asia.

Vance, accompanied by President Donald Trump’s son Jared Kushner and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, arrived at Pakistan’s Nur Khan airbase on Saturday.

A visual of the fighter jets flying on either side of Vance’s aircraft is making the rounds on the internet, with media reports suggesting the move was aimed at enhancing security for the delegates ahead of the crucial talks.

A delegation from Iran reached Islamabad on Friday. According to Pakistani sources, the delegation included: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, President Seyed Abbas Araghchi, three Supreme National Security Council members, the Central Bank governor, three Deputy Foreign Ministers, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, members of parliament, and the president of Iran’s National Defense University.

Multiple media reports suggested Iran sent three planes — with only one of them carrying the negotiators and the other two acting as decoys — to Islamabad in order to shield its delegation amid fears of a potential threat from Israel.

The world pins its hopes on the much-anticipated talks between the U.S. and Iran to end the war in West Asia, that has killed thousands and shaken the global economy.

Ghalibaf has said talks with Washington cannot proceed until Tehran’s preconditions are met, which include: 1. Release of Iranian assets; and, 2. Ceasefire in Lebanon.
