The Stray Dog Victim Compensation Recommendation Committee (SDVCRC) has recommended ₹14.23 lakh as compensation for victims of stray dog attacks in Malappuram district.
The committee examined 52 claims and cleared 36 for compensation. The recommendations have been forwarded to the State government for approval. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conference hall at Manjeri on Saturday (July 4).
DLSA Secretary and Senior Division Civil Judge Shabir Ibrahim presided over the meeting. District Medical Officer V. Vinod, Local Self-Government department Assistant Director Bipin Joseph, and District Animal Husbandry Officer Shoukathali Vadakkumpadam attended.
Constituted under a High Court directive, the committee assesses and recommends compensation for victims of stray dog attacks. Victims can submit compensation claims to the DLSA at Manjeri or the respective Taluk Legal Services Committees.
Officials said 283 petitions pending before the Justice Siri Jagan Committee had been transferred to the DLSA for consideration.
