ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator O. Panneerselvam on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) criticised the DMK government for failing to take steps to contain the incidence of explosions at fireworks units in the State.

Referring to the latest mishap in Virudhunagar district, Mr. Panneerselvam recalled Chief Minister M.K.Stalin’s reported advice in the wake of a similar incident last year in the district, and contended that if there had been a proper follow-up, Tuesday’s accident could have been prevented.

“This is because of the DMK regime’s callous attitude and ineffectiveness,” he said, urging the Chief Minister to provide high-quality medical care to the injured workers; protection to employees of the units; and meet the educational expenses of the children of the affected workers.

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran wanted a special team to be formed to monitor the working of the units every three months and called for the enforcement of safety standards and measures.
