A passenger was injured after a huge rock fell on a moving Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at Nalppatham Mile near Peruvanthanam on the Kottarakkara-Dindigul National Highway on Thursday morning around 4.45 a.m..

The injured passenger was identified as Raju, a resident of Pallikkathode, Kottayam. The KSRTC bus was en route to Kottayam from Nedumkandam. The injured passenger was seated at the back of the vehicle. The impact of the rock hit destroyed the rear portion of the bus.

According to KSRTC officials, nearly 50 passengers were on board the bus and narrowly escaped a major tragedy. The rockfall caused a traffic jam on the highway for nearly an hour. The Peruvanthanam police and Highway police arrived at the spot to clear the debris and resume traffic.

A similar tragedy had occurred in the area in August 2023, when one person was killed and five others, including an eight-month-old girl, were injured after massive boulders rolled down a hill and crushed a parked car at Valanjanganam near Kuttikkanam on the same highway.
