Patna: The overall pass percentage of the Patna region, comprising all districts of Bihar, in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination declined to 74.45% in 2026, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
The figure marks a sharp drop from 78.83% recorded last year, reflecting a decline of more than four percentage points.The Patna region ranked 21st among 22 regions in the country and remained well below the national average of 85.20%. Of the 80,161 candidates registered in Bihar, 79,012 appeared for the examination and 58,824 passed successfully. The results also highlighted a significant gender gap. Boys recorded a pass percentage of 70.50%, while girls performed considerably better with 81.13%.Among different social categories, OBC candidates secured the highest pass percentage at 75.08%, followed by ST candidates at 74.49%, General category students at 74.09% and SC candidates at 71.99%.Performance also varied widely across school categories. Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded an impressive pass percentage of 99.55%, while Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas achieved 98.78%. Govt schools posted 87.12%, whereas independent schools recorded 75.66%.
The Patna region also reported one of the highest compartment rates in the country. A total of 13,368 students were placed in the compartment category, accounting for 16.92% of the appeared candidates. Bihar currently has 942 CBSE-affiliated schools and 323 examination centres.DAV Public School, BSEB Colony, achieved a 100% pass percentage, with students excelling across science, commerce and arts streams.
Atul Srivastava topped the school with 98.4% marks in the arts stream. Principal AC Jha said a large number of students scored above 90%, reflecting the quality education and disciplined academic environment of the school.Rohan Prasad of St Michael’s High School scored 98.6% in science stream, Shivam Raj secured 98% in commerce stream and Asna Khan obtained 97% in arts stream. Principal Fr A Christu Savarirajan SJ said of the 426 candidates registered for the examination, 425 cleared it with flying colours, while 109 students scored above 90%.Notre Dame Academy achieved a perfect 100% pass percentage and, out of 271 students, 98% secured first division, while 52 students scored above 90%. Shivani Vats from the arts stream topped the school with 97.2%. Loyola High School also achieved a 100% result, with Arnav Aditya emerging as school topper with 97% in arts.Nandani, Shivangi Gupta and Anushka Ranjan emerged as toppers of St Karen’s High School with 96.8%, 96% and 94.6% in arts, science and commerce streams respectively.
Principal Seema Singh said over 19 students secured 90% and above. Similarly, at St Karen’s Secondary School, 19 students scored above 90%. Soumya Sinha and Adivya Aryan both secured 96% in their respective streams — arts and science — while Ashika Patel scored 95.6% in commerce.Farhat Hasan, directress of International School, said 98% students passed with first division, with many achieving distinction marks.
“Ayush Raj is the school topper with 98.5% in science stream,” she added.Holy Mission Secondary School recorded a 100% pass percentage. A total of 71 students secured more than 90% marks.Baldwin Academy recorded an overall pass percentage of 92%, with 18 students scoring above 85%, while Suhana Gupta emerged as the school topper with 94.4% in commerce.
