Pakistan stepping in as a mediator between the United States and Iran has set off a flood of memes online, with people quickly pulling in pop culture references and humour to make sense of the situation across social media.

The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, just hours before US President Donald Trump’s deadline to “obliterate" Iran with military action against Tehran was set to expire.

Talks between the two nations are now scheduled to take place in Pakistan later this week, a development that quickly grabbed the internet’s attention. The announcement did not just spark curiosity, it also triggered a wave of humour online, with social media users flooding X with memes centred on Pakistan’s unexpected role in the negotiations.

One of the most widely shared memes featured Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby from the popular show Peaky Blinders, portraying Pakistan as a calm, calculating strategist handling both sides. Another meme likened the country to a “wedding mediator," trying to ease tensions between two feuding families while quietly ensuring everything stays on track.

Shehbaz Sharif, who stepped in as a mediator, said Islamabad is open to hosting delegations from both sides for talks aimed at reaching a “conclusive agreement." The reactions gained further momentum after the US and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire ahead of a deadline set by Donald Trump, with Pakistan now preparing to host the next round of discussions.

And the internet, of course, did not stop there—here are some of the other memes that have everyone talking.

Some users compared the situation to a group chat admin trying to stop two members from escalating a fight, while others joked that Pakistan was acting like a “referee in a heavyweight boxing match." A few memes framed it as a classic middleman scenario — “broker energy" — where Pakistan sits between two powerful players trying to strike a deal.

Several users also reacted with scepticism and humour around the ceasefire itself. “If it’s based on these two, I request everybody there is no ceasefire. Don’t let your guard down," one user wrote, while another questioned, “Has a poor country like Pakistan now overtaken India in foreign policy?"

A lot of the humour leaned into irony. One widely shared Hindi comment read, “Company ka diwala nikal gaya phir bhi munafe me chal rahi hai," roughly translating to “The company has gone bankrupt, yet it’s somehow still running in profit," poking fun at what users saw as contradictions in Pakistan’s position.

The Strait of Hormuz angle also didn’t escape the internet. As reports suggested Iran would allow passage under certain conditions, users joked about Pakistan suddenly taking on “traffic management duties" in one of the world’s most sensitive trade routes.

Others brought it back to everyday life. “Great, now can we get a ceasefire on inflation too?" one viral comment read, capturing the mood of people who see global tensions spilling into their own cost of living.
