Char Dham Yatra 2026: Devotees planning for Uttarakhand’s Chardham Yatra- pilgrimage to holy shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath- will soon have to pay a fee while registering online for the pilgrimage in a bid to curb fake bookings.
Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey on Tuesday said that a committee formed under the chairmanship of the Additional Commissioner of Garhwal Division will determine the amount of the registration fees at the earliest.
He said that a minimum fee of Rs 10 has been proposed to prevent fake registrations, a concern that has grown in recent years as the yatra attracts millions of devotees annually.
“People will have to pay a fee for online registration for the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Additional Commissioner of Garhwal Division to determine the fee at the earliest. A minimum fee of Rs 10 should be charged to prevent fake registrations for the Char Dham Yatra. The final fee will be decided after the committee submits its report and receives approval from the government," Pandey said as quoted by news agency ANI.
The proposal comes amid growing concerns over fake registrations, which have posed recurring challenges for the Uttarakhand government in recent years. Officials said bogus bookings often lead to overcrowding, mismanagement, and safety concerns along the yatra routes.
The nominal fee is aimed at ensuring that only genuine devotees register for the annual pilgrimage, thereby improving crowd management and accountability.
The development comes ahead of this year’s Char Dham Yatra, which is set to begin on April 19 with the opening of the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri. The doors of Kedarnath will reopen on April 22, followed by Badrinath on April 23.
With lakhs of devotees expected to undertake the sacred journey this season, ensuring a safe, organised, and hassle-free Char Dham Yatra experience should remain a top priority for the Uttarakhand government.
