New Delhi: Sony’s PlayStation might be scaling back its strategy of bringing major first-party single-player games to PC. During the recent internal town hall meeting, PlayStation Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst said that the future first-party narrative driven single–player games will going to remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles and specifically referencing single-player narrative experiences, by suggesting that multiplayer-aimed games could still be unveiled on PC along with PlayStation consoles.

Those upcoming titles such as Ghost of Yotei, Saros, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Marvel’s Wolverine might not arrive on the PC platform in the future. Between Single-player and Multiplayer games appears important in Sony’s evolving strategy. Multiplayer-centric titles such as Fairgames might still be considered for PC releases.

This shift might align with the success of Helldivers 2, which performed strongly on Steam after unveiling simultaneously on PS5 and PC. Sony has gradually extended its PC presence by releasing titles such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us on PC after their console unveiling.

The strategy was widely viewed as a way to generate additional revenue from the existing titles while also unveiling PlayStation franchises to a wider audience beyond consoles. Sony might not have seen the level of commercial success it was expecting from some of its single-player PC releases. The entry-level PS Plus Essential plan, which was earlier started at Rs 499 for a one-month subscription, will now cost Rs 649.
