PM Narendra Modi praises Kovil Sangam Hindu Seychelles for building Tanp Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, during Seychelles National Day visit as Guest of Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appreciated the efforts of the Hindu community in Seychelles for promoting Indian culture and spirituality through the construction of the Tanp Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised Kovil Sangam Hindu Seychelles for its contribution to strengthening India’s cultural and spiritual heritage abroad.

“I offer my appreciation to Kovil Sangam Hindu Seychelles for their efforts in the construction of the Tanp Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar temple and for promoting the different aspects of Indian culture and spirituality in Seychelles," PM Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came as India continues to strengthen its cultural ties with Seychelles, home to a sizeable Indian-origin community. Over the years, New Delhi has supported several initiatives aimed at preserving Indian traditions, heritage and religious institutions in the island nation.

The Tanp Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple is among the prominent Hindu temples in Seychelles and serves as an important centre for religious and cultural activities for the Indian diaspora.

During his visit to the Seychellois capital, the Prime Minister also met members of the Indian diaspora. He interacted with community members and acknowledged their contribution towards strengthening the long-standing cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Seychelles.

The visit coincided with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day, where PM Modi attended the ceremonial parade as the Guest of Honour. The event featured a strong Indian military presence, including a marching contingent from the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army, the Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tarkash, and the indigenously built Survey Vessel Large INS Ikshak.

The Indian Army contingent drew applause from spectators as it marched through Victoria to the tune of its regimental song, Badlu Ram Ka Badan, during the parade marking 50 years of Seychelles’ independence.

Following the celebrations, PM Modi thanked Seychelles President Patrick Herminie for the invitation and shared photographs from the event.

Earlier, the Indian Navy had said that the deployment of INS Tarkash, INS Ikshak, a marching contingent and a naval band reflected the enduring “Bridges of Friendship" and growing maritime partnership between India and Seychelles.

On the sidelines of the National Day celebrations, the Prime Minister also held separate meetings with Seychelles Opposition Leader Bernard Georges and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing partnerships across the strategically significant Indian Ocean region.
