Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the devastating fire at a coaching centre in Lucknow and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families and those injured in the incident.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was anguished by the loss of lives in the fire mishap in Uttar Pradesh’s capital and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

PM Modi also announced an ex-gratia payment from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). According to the announcement, the next of kin of each deceased person will receive Rs 2 lakh, while those injured in the incident will be given Rs 50,000.
The Prime Minister’s statement came as rescue and relief operations continued at the site of the fire in Lucknow’s Aliganj area, where a coaching centre operating from the upper floors of a commercial building caught fire, triggering panic among students and local residents.
The blaze led to chaotic scenes as several students reportedly jumped from the building to save themselves after thick smoke engulfed the premises. Firefighters and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations to evacuate those trapped inside.
Officials said multiple fire tenders, ambulances and medical teams were deployed at the site. Several injured persons were shifted to hospitals for treatment.
The Uttar Pradesh government also intensified rescue efforts following the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the fire and directed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations while ensuring proper medical treatment for the injured.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, though preliminary reports have pointed to a possible electrical short circuit. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
As rescue operations continue and the administration assesses the extent of the damage.
