Vijay’s Oath-Taking Ceremony
The actor-turned-politician was sworn in as Chief Minister at a grand ceremony held at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday morning. Vijay has become the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Nine senior leaders of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet.
TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 seats in the 234-member House. The party later secured support from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), taking its tally to 120 and crossing the majority mark. Vijay’s swearing-in marks a major political shift in Tamil Nadu, as it is the first time in nearly 70 years that a government outside the DMK-AIADMK combine has come to power in the state.
Rahul Gandhi Attends Grand Event
Several political leaders and film personalities attended the ceremony, which drew thousands of supporters from across Tamil Nadu. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also marked his presence at the event, underlining the national attention surrounding the transition. Actor Trisha was also present among members of the film fraternity.
Vijay also created history by becoming the first actor in the state to win a majority mandate and become Chief Minister in his very first electoral contest.
