Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met with Spanish President Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón at Hyderabad House in New Delhi amid high-level engagements at the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026.
The meeting between the two leaders followed President Sanchez’s arrival in the national capital to participate in the prestigious summit, being held at Bharat Mandapam. The Spanish President was warmly welcomed at the airport by Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Singh.
Extending greetings to President Sanchez, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote in a post on ‘X’, “Welcome, President of Spain, Mr. Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon @sanchezcastejon for the India-AI Impact Summit. Warmly received by Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship @jayantrld.
“The visit of President Sanchez will add further impetus to the ongoing celebrations of India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and AI", he added.
In a separate post, Randhir Jaiswal stated that PM Modi and President Sanchez discussed a wide range of topics, involving trade and economy, digital, innovation, health, climate action, and more.
“PM @narendramodi held bilateral meeting with President @sanchezcastejon of Spain during his visit to New Delhi to attend the AI Impact Summit 2026. Both leaders discussed a wide range of issues aimed at deepening India-Spain partnership", the post read.
“Key areas discussed include trade and economy, digital, innovation, health, climate action and education among others. PM conveyed his appreciation for Spain’s consistent support for strong India-EU relations", it added.
AI IMPACT SUMMIT 2026
The AI Impact Summit 2026 — being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi — commenced on February 16 and will conclude on February 20.
As the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South, it is being famed as a platform to strengthen the nation’s position in the AI governance.
The summit focuses on AI’s transformative potential, falling in line with India’s national vision of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya" (welfare for all, happiness for all). The prestigious summit features participation from more than 110 countries and 30 international organisations.
