PM Modi has been invited by Bangladesh to attend the February 17 swearing-in of Tarique Rahman as Prime Minister following his BNP's sweeping election victory.

The development comes a day after Prime Minister Modi publicly confirmed a conversation with Tarique Rahman.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received an invitation from Bangladesh to attend the swearing-in ceremony of its new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, whose party secured a sweeping victory in the first national election held after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, sources said.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman, son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister on February 17.

India has not yet confirmed receiving the invitation, and a decision on whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ceremony in Dhaka is still awaited, even as both countries seek to reset bilateral ties.

India is among the 13 countries invited by Chief Adviser of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus. The other nations are China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives and Bhutan.
