Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today inaugurate the remaining stretches of the 82-km Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the 23-km Meerut Metro, India’s fastest metro service, in a move that will give a major push to regional connectivity.

He will inaugurate the remaining sections of India's first Namo Bharat RRTS, which include the 5-km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21-km section between Meerut South and Modipuram. The entire journey will take just under an hour.

With a design speed of 180 km per hour and a maximum operational speed of 160 km per hour, the RRTS will connect major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut with Delhi at a faster pace.

ABOUT MEERUT METRO AND RRTS'S SIGNIFICANCE

The Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro service, with a top operational speed of about 120 km per hour, completing the journey in just 30 minutes. There are 13 stations on the route – Meerut South, Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Brahmapuri, Meerut Central, Bhaisali, Begumpul, MES Colony, Daurli, Meerut North, Modipuram and Modipuram Depot. Of the 13 stations, passengers can interchange for the RRTS at Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram.

Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the corridor, is among the four Namo Bharat stations being commissioned for the inauguration. It has been developed as a major multi-modal hub, linking Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and the Ring Road. The other three stations — Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram — are located in Meerut.

PM MODI'S ITINERARY

According to the district administration, PM Modi will arrive at Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport at 11 am. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach the Mohkampur helipad near Shatabdi Nagar station at 11:15 am by state helicopter. The Prime Minister’s helicopter is scheduled to land at the same helipad at 11:30 am, where he will be received by the Chief Minister.

At 12:30 pm, the Prime Minister will flag off the Namo Bharat train and the Meerut Metro from Shatabdi Nagar station, following which he will travel by metro with Adityanath to Meerut South station.

Around 1 pm, Modi will proceed to Mohiuddinpur to address a public meeting. Before the rally, he will inaugurate and dedicate development projects worth about Rs 12,930 crore to the nation, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

After spending about an hour at the venue, the Prime Minister is expected to depart from the Mohiuddinpur helipad around 2.10 pm and return to Hindon Airport.

On Saturday, Adityanath inspected arrangements ahead of PM Modi’s visit to flag off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train, officials said.

During the review, the Chief Minister assessed cleanliness, security and passenger facilities at the station premises, and issued directions to officials to ensure smooth coordination.

Adityanath also took stock of preparations at the proposed public meeting venue, including stage setup, traffic management, security deployment, parking arrangements and VIP movement plans. Actor and Meerut MP Arun Govil accompanied him during the inspection.

The RRTS and metro inauguration is a part of the Centre’s push to expand regional rapid transit networks in Delhi-NCR to reduce travel time, ease congestion and promote sustainable urban mobility.
