Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has said he will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the mega dairy being built by the Hassan Cooperative Milk Producers’ Society Union (HAMUL) on the outskirts of Hassan at a cost of over ₹850 crore.
Speaking to presspersons after reviewing the progress of the work on Tuesday, Mr. Deve Gowda said construction was still under way. He added that he would visit the site again in June and, once the project is completed, personally call on the Prime Minister to invite him to inaugurate the facility.
He noted that the project had been taken up with financial support from the Union government, with no assistance from the State. Describing it as the dream project of HAMUL president and former Minister H.D. Revanna, he credited Mr. Revanna’s efforts for bringing the work to its final stage and said the dairy would benefit milk producers in Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts. The plant is being set up with German machinery, he added.
The former Prime Minister said that more than two lakh milk producers from the three districts are expected to participate in the inaugural event.
Mr. Revanna and other HAMUL functionaries were present.
