A high-level meeting to review preparations for the upcoming NEET examination was held at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence on Thursday, with top ministers, senior government officials and key functionaries associated with the examination process in attendance.

According to top government sources, the meeting focused on every aspect of the examination process—from the setting of question papers and printing to transportation and security arrangements. Sources said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is maintaining a strict vigil over the entire process to ensure there are no lapses.

The NEET exam was earlier conducted on May 3 across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, with over 2.2 million students appearing for it. Following a paper leak controversy, the exam was cancelled on May 12.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended the meeting along with senior ministers, including Jyotiraditya Scindia. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, senior officials from the Education Ministry, and top PMO officers were also present.

Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the preparations and is being updated on every minute detail related to the examination process. The heightened scrutiny comes in the backdrop of controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in the examination.

Government sources further indicated that it was following the Prime Minister’s directions, after concerns over possible links to irregularities emerged, that the earlier examination was cancelled.

Nearly 23 lakh students are expected to appear for the NEET examination scheduled to be held on June 21. Sources added that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been conducting constant reviews to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the examination.
