Tatta Pani sector in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir has plunged into fresh turmoil after Pakistan Rangers and PoK Police carried out a fresh round of raids and crackdowns, triggering anger among locals and raising fears of mass mobilisation, CNN-News18 has learnt.

According to local accounts and inputs from the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), women and children were allegedly detained during the raids, sparking outrage in the area. An enraged crowd later surrounded the Tatta Pani police station, while hundreds of people were said to be marching towards the town on foot.

The JAAC has alleged widespread police brutality, arbitrary arrests, intimidation and unlawful raids across PoK, claiming that the crackdown has left several families traumatised and fearful.

In one such account, local Kashmiri Dr Masood Khalid detailed what he described as a traumatic law enforcement raid on his family home. In a video statement, he alleged that he and his family were subjected to mistreatment during the raid, an incident JAAC said reflected growing concerns being voiced by residents across PoK.

The committee has claimed that reports of excessive use of force, illegal detentions and violations of fundamental rights have become increasingly widespread in the region. It said these incidents raise serious questions about rule of law and the protection of basic human rights in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The JAAC has also appealed to international human rights organisations and the wider global community to urgently monitor and investigate the deteriorating situation in PoK. It has called for independent scrutiny, accountability and legal action against those responsible for alleged rights violations.

“No citizen should live in fear of those entrusted with upholding the law. Justice delayed is justice denied," the committee said.

JAAC Writes To Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir

The latest developments come a day after the JAAC wrote separately to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, seeking legal action against military personnel and state officials it holds responsible for the violence that followed the June 4 crackdown in PoK.

In its letters, the committee demanded the prosecution of officials and security personnel allegedly involved in civilian killings and human rights violations in Rawalakot, Mirpur, Kotli and other parts of PoK. It also called for the implementation of the original rights agreement reached with the government and the immediate withdrawal of what it described as all “unjustified" state measures imposed after June 4.

The JAAC maintained that its movement was not directed against Pakistan or its institutions but against the actions of what it described as a handful of “errant" military and government officials. It warned that unless those responsible were held accountable, the situation could deteriorate further and trigger a deeper humanitarian crisis.

Reiterating that it would continue its movement through peaceful democratic means, the committee said it would not bow to what it called oppressive state actions.
