Kanpur: Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar Police investigated a cyber fraud case in which Rs 1,27,00,000 was withdrawn from the bank account of Sardar Mohkam Singh in Aug 2025, and gold worth approximately Rs 54,00,000 was purchased during the offence.Cyber police station and crime branch teams carried out intensive efforts for nearly six months to trace those involved.Based on data and technical analysis by the govt of India, investigators obtained a photograph and identity of a suspect, which matched the identity used at the time of the crime. Despite the name being different, the team continued with technical and manual surveillance.During the investigation, one accused, Arshad Ansari, was arrested from Meerut and sent to jail. Police teams also conducted operations in Maharashtra to trace the second accused,
Meraj Ansari
, and arrested him after several days of sustained efforts.
The accused was produced before the local court and brought to Kanpur on transit remand.A joint team of the crime branch and cyber police station carried out the arrest operation. During interrogation, it also emerged that two Nigerian nationals were associated with the gang. Police said detailed information about them was being gathered and further legal and technical action was being taken.At the time of arrest, the accused was moving around on a scooty and was continuously changing his appearance and location to evade police. Police traced and arrested him based on technical evidence and sustained surveillance.
