Panchkula: In a push to promote fuel conservation and sustainable transport, Panchkula police has launched an initiative encouraging its personnel to adopt eco-friendly commuting practices.Acting on the call for fuel saving and environmental protection, the department has issued guidelines asking officers and staff to minimise use of private vehicles and opt for alternatives such as cycling, carpooling and official transport.Police personnel have been encouraged to use bicycles, as far as feasible, for commuting, a move officials said would help cut fuel consumption, reduce pollution and promote a healthier lifestyle.Employees have also been advised to adopt carpooling during duty and daily travel to further curb fuel usage. To support the initiative, a dedicated bus service has been introduced linking Police Lines with key offices, police stations and posts across the city. The bus will depart from Police Lines at 8.40am, passing via the DCP office and Police Colony in Sector 5 before reaching the commissioner of police’s office. The return journey will begin at 5.20pm, following the same route.Senior officials said branch heads have been directed to ensure implementation and encourage personnel to actively participate in the drive.
