Several senior Karnataka Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, travelled to New Delhi on Thursday, intensifying speculation over internal discussions within the party and the long-running debate around leadership in the state.

The visit drew fresh attention after Home Minister G Parameshwara publicly acknowledged concerns over uncertainty within the Congress, saying prolonged political ambiguity was affecting governance.

“I have always said political confusion in the party affects administration," Parameshwara said before leaving for Delhi alongside Siddaramaiah.

The senior Congress leader added that he would again urge the party leadership to remove ambiguity.

“I believe there shouldn’t be any political ambiguity in our party. It affects administration. So it is in the interest of the state and the people if it is resolved," he said.

Parameshwara further noted that leaders travelling to Delhi were unaware of the exact agenda but hoped discussions with the Congress high command would end ongoing speculation.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was accompanied by ministers G Parameshwara, KJ George, HC Mahadevappa, MB Patil and Byrathi Suresh, while DK Shivakumar left separately for Delhi. Congress leader DK Suresh and minister Priyank Kharge are already in the national capital.

The developments come against the backdrop of persistent speculation over Karnataka’s future leadership.

Shivakumar has previously avoided directly answering questions on whether he expects to become Chief Minister, saying only that “time will answer" the question.

Meanwhile, Parameshwara had earlier described Shivakumar’s chief ministerial ambitions as “natural", while maintaining that the final decision rests with the Congress high command.

The leadership discussion widened further after Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna recently argued that if Siddaramaiah were ever replaced, Parameshwara should be considered for the Chief Minister’s post, adding another name to Karnataka Congress’ internal power equation.

Rajanna’s comments sparked political debate as they appeared to position Parameshwara as an alternative claimant amid ongoing discussions around succession and caste representation within the party.

The Congress leadership has repeatedly denied any rift and maintained that Siddaramaiah will continue as Chief Minister.
