The portable fish hatchery at the fish farm of the State Institute of Fisheries Technology (SIFT-Kakinada) was commissioned recently. It is expected to increase fish production across the 750 local ponds in Kakinada district.

Fisheries Department Commissioner Rama Shankar Naik, Additional Director of Fisheries and SIFT Principal S. Anjali and District Collector M. N. Harendhira Prasad released fish seed into a fish farm near Kakinada city.

The scientists of the SIFT-Kakinada and the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT-Vijayawada) will train members of the cooperative societies on maintaining the six ponds, where officials released fish seed.

“Fish seed will be breed in the laboratory and will be first released into the pilot six ponds, before being distributed to the identified 750 ponds. The fishermen cooperative societies will be permitted to harvest the fish in those 750 ponds,” said Mr. M. N. Harendhira Prasad.
