Postal department sees high demand for Gangajal bottles in Indore

INDORE: The postal department in the Indore region received orders for approximately 2,600 bottles of Gangajal, generating revenue of over Rs 78,000 during the month-long Shravan month amid growing demand for packaged Gangajal.The Shravan month commenced on July 11, 2025, and concluded on August 9, 2025. Overall, the postal department earned more than Rs 78,420 from the distribution of Gangajal bottles during this period."We have been documenting an encouraging demand for Gangajal from customers. All the centres in the Indore region recorded a substantial demand for Gangajal. In addition to direct sales, we also encourage counter sales from specific locations," said Priti Agrawal, Postmaster General, Indore region.The postal department also establishes stalls outside temples and at community development programmes to publicise the distribution of packaged Gangajal from the department.Shravan is the peak period when Gangajal demand sets in, though distribution continues throughout the year, said officials from the postal department.The India Postal Department distributes Gangajal procured from Gangotri in 250 ml bottles at Rs 30 per bottle. The packaged Gangajal is collected from Gangotri, one of the four locations in the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit.According to the postal department, in the financial year 2023-2024, a total of 11,870 bottles were sold, generating revenue of Rs 3,56,100 for the postal department.
