In Patna, vibrant posters celebrate Nishant Kumar, positioning him as the potential next chief minister of Bihar as speculation mounts about his father Nitish Kumar's ambitions on the national stage. Supporters are rallying around Nishant, believing he has the vision to carry forward his father's legacy.
Patna: As CM Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Friday, posters surfaced across Patna projecting his son Nishant Kumar as Bihar’s next chief minister. The move has fuelled speculation within the JD(U) about a possible leadership transition as Nitish shifts focus towards national politics. One of the prominent slogans on the posters reads, “Nitish ji ka mission adhoora, Nishant Kumar hi karenge poora,” suggesting that only his son can complete Nitish’s unfinished mission. Nishant, who entered active politics last month, is increasingly being portrayed by party supporters as the veteran leader’s political heir. The poster campaign, reportedly spearheaded by JD(U) worker Krishna Patel, appeared outside party offices and at several locations in the state capital.
The visuals feature Nitish Kumar, Nishant Kumar and JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha. Another slogan makes an emotional appeal to Nitish not to leave Bihar, claiming that the people would feel “orphaned” without his leadership.Supporters describe Nitish’s long tenure as a period of stability and security for Bihar and argue that Nishant is capable of carrying forward his legacy. Nitish has served as Bihar chief minister since Nov 2005.
He was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and resigned from the legislative council on March 30.Nishant formally joined the JD(U) on March 8, 2026, marking his transition from private life to active politics. His entry is being widely viewed as the beginning of a succession plan, with party circles speculating that he could be accommodated as deputy chief minister in a future govt formation.
