Times News NetworkKanpur: A potato trader was allegedly abducted by a commission agent and his associates in the Sachendi area of the city. Police registered a case on a family complaint and detained two suspects for questioning, and recovered the trader’s mobile phone from them.
The police carried out search operations around the Sachendi canal and Bhauti bypass, but no trace of the trader was found so far.Manoj Kumar Shukla, a resident of Juhi Hari Colony, said he, Devesh Kumar and Yogesh Kumar ran a firm in Chakarpur Mandi that traded in potatoes, onions and garlic.He said that on the morning of July 2, his brother Devesh Kumar left for Chakarpur Mandi and did not return until 10 at night. His wife Aradhana spoke to him on the phone, during which Devesh said he was coming home with potato commission agent Sanju Pal.Manoj said that he later called Devesh but the phone was switched off. He said that he called Sanju as well, but the call was not answered.He said he went to Chakarpur Mandi the next day and made inquiries, after which potato commission agent Irfan and his driver Amarendra said Devesh consumed alcohol late at night with Sanju and his clerk Tinku, and the two then left together. Manoj said that under the Chakarpur Mandi bridge, Sanju and Tinku were talking to an auto driver.
Manoj said Sanju owed them Rs 2.90 lakh and, despite Devesh asking for it several times, Sanju evaded payment. He expressed apprehension that his brother might have been abducted and killed over the dispute.DCP (West) SM Qasim Abidi said that, based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered and two suspects were taken into custody. He said the abducted trader’s mobile phone was recovered from the accused, and teams conducted raids and searches to trace the trader.
