Pothole-riddled Silchar-AU road draws residents’ ire

Silchar: The deteriorating condition of the road connecting Silchar town to Assam University has triggered resentment among students, teachers, commuters and local residents.

The worst-affected area is the Silcoorie stretch, where the road has become heavily damaged. The stretch from Silcoorie post office to Silcoorie camp has become nearly unmotorable because of potholes that have remained unattended for a long time. The situation has worsened during the monsoon.Thousands of students, university employees and local residents use the road daily.Locals alleged that despite repeated appeals for repair, authorities have failed to take effective measures.Demanding immediate repair of the road, residents urged the district administration and public representatives to intervene without further delay. People also questioned how the poor condition of the road had allegedly escaped the attention of Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, who is said to frequently use the route while travelling to his residence at Irongmara near the university.
