Pregnant Jersey cow electrocuted during rain in Bengaluru, owner blames Bescom

Bengaluru: A 47-year-old dairy farmer lost his pregnant Jersey cow worth over Rs 1.3 lakh after it was electrocuted allegedly due to a faulty underground Bescom cable during heavy rain in Nagarabhavi, west Bengaluru, Monday evening.According to the complaint filed by Prakash, who owns around 15 cows and runs a dairy business, the incident occurred at 5.15pm when he was taking two cows from Nagarabhavi Ramakrishna Hegde Park towards an empty site behind the govt library building. As heavy rain lashed the area, one of the Jersey cows suddenly collapsed on the ground while the other ran away in panic. Prakash said he saw smoke emerging from the ground at the spot and an underground cable was found damaged.Prakash told police the cow died due to a short circuit caused by the underground cable and blamed Bescom and the owner of the vacant site for the accident.A case has been registered under Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) of BNS and under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
