New Delhi: Mozilla has recently announced that it will soon offer Firefox users more control over how much AI appears in their browser. The latest Firefox version 148 has been scheduled to be unveiled on February 24. The company will launch a set of the latest AI controls that will enable users to block all of the current and future generative AI features, or selectively allow only those they want to enable in their browser. Mozilla has also added that as AI features become more deeply integrated into the browsers, many users have raised concerns around the clutter, privacy, and unwanted automation.

The company’s latest approach acknowledges that not all of the users want AI embedded into their browsing experience, while still accommodating those who do. Furthermore, users will be able to use Firefox with no AI features at all, or with a customised mix of tools, rather than being pushed into a one-size-fits-all experience. They are going add a dedicated AI controls section within the desktop browser’s settings. This section will act as a central hub where the user can review, manage, or turn off AI-powered features offered by Firefox.

Users who do not want any AI involvement can be enabled to toggle the Block AI enhancements. Once it is turned on by the users, Firefox will going to stop surfacing those AI features altogether, including the prompts, reminders, or suggestions related to the existing and future AI tools. Mozilla has also stated that these preferences will remain unchanged across browser updates unless users choose to modify them manually.
