Private sleeper bus catches fire on Bengaluru outskirts, all passengers and crew are safe

A Yadgir-bound private non-AC sleeper bus went up in flames after a minor accident near Nelamangala on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru post-midnight on February 5, police said. All passengers and the crew are safe.

The incident occurred near Hanumanthapura Gate, located between Nelamangala and Dobbspet on NH-48. The bus was ferrying close to 30 passengers, and had left Bengaluru around 11 p.m. on February 5.

According to police sources, the bus crashed into an electric pole near Hanumanthapura around 12.15 a.m., following which all the passengers were evacuated.

Hours later, a fire broke out in the bus. Flames engulfed the entire vehicle within a few minutes, and gutted the bus. A passer-by called the fire department around 2 a.m. 

Fire department sources said that two fire tenders were pressed into service immediately. The fire was doused within two hours.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown.
