Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has written a letter to the RSS demanding transparency on registration, finances and operations. In a formal communication, the minister stated that an organisation advocating for nationalism and discipline must comply with constitutional norms and financial accountability. The minister questioned why the RSS should be exempt from rules that apply to ordinary citizens, non-governmental organisations, trusts, and companies, insisting that the organisation must register, disclose finances, undergo audits, and pay taxes. The minister also urged the RSS leadership to use the organisation's upcoming centenary as an opportunity for constitutional introspection rather than mere celebration. This development escalates the ongoing political tussle between the Congress and the RSS in Karnataka, following previous directives requiring organisations to obtain permission before hosting events in government schools and colleges. The minister had previously warned activists to maintain proper registration documents, emphasising that if religious institutions are accountable for donations, the RSS must also disclose its funding sources and expenditures.
