Mofakkarul Islam, the mastermind of the Malda hostage standoff, has said that he will continue protesting against voter name deletion in Bengal. He made the statement while speaking to reporters on Friday after he was produced before a local court. The AIMIM leader, who is also an advocate, was arrested on Thursday at Siliguri's Bagdogra airport while trying to flee.

"Protests will continue. Until the names of voters, put under adjudication, are not included in the list, the protests will continue," Islam said in Bengali.

When asked if his actions were at the direction of any political party, he flatly refused. "This is my work for the public."

Islam also dismissed making any instigating statements and challenged the reporters to show him evidence supporting the same.
