A strong pro-Left wave is sweeping across Kerala, intensifying into a storm with each passing day, Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary and captain of the Kerala Vikasana Munnetta Jatha, Binoy Viswam, said here on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference in Kollam on the third day of his tour, Mr. Viswam remarked that the enthusiastic reception the Yatra has received at every stop is a clear testament to the public’s support. He added that the government’s sincerity in fulfilling its promises and its commitment to the people have significantly bolstered its popularity.
“The growing momentum of the LDF has left both the Congress and the BJP in a state of panic. They are resorting to campaigns of misinformation because they are afraid to engage in genuine political debate. While the LDF stands by its track record of governance, the opposition is desperately trying to divert public attention through baseless allegations,” he said. Talking about the ongoing farmers’ issues, the CPI leader alleged that the Central government’s actions against farmers are part of a calculated move. “The Centre has entered into a secret agreement with the United States to allow large-scale grain imports, which explains their desire to see domestic food production decrease. Despite Central pressure, the State government has not scrapped subsidies for farmers,” he said. Mr. Viswam criticised the Leader of the Opposition and the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president for their silence on the matter, suggesting that Congress is afraid of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the BJP itself acts out of fear of international interests.
Mr. Viswam also targeted Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran over the ESI Medical College controversy, labeling it a ‘political drama’. He said that the LDF does not oppose the establishment of medical colleges but insisted that necessary physical infrastructure and guidelines must be met before an Essentiality Certificate can be issued. He questioned why the MP, despite his alleged influence in the Prime Minister’s Office, has failed to secure an AIIMS for the State or focus on establishing the basic requirements for the medical college first.
