The death of Ketan Agarwal, a member of a prominent business family, was initially thought to be an accident on Pune’s Lohagad fort, then what gave away the murder plot laid by his fiancée, Siya Goyal?

According to the Pune Rural Police, it was a youngster wearing a hoodie in the middle of heat, who was later identified as her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary.

‘Siya got sympathy’

Addressing a press conference, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Gill explained how officers uncovered the alleged conspiracy. Initially, a case of accidental death was registered, and sympathy was centred on Siya Goyal, whose fiancé had died just days before their wedding.

However, investigators said inconsistencies in her statement prompted a deeper probe.

During the investigation, police examined the CCTV footage from routes leading to Lohagad Fort and noticed a young man travelling behind the couple’s vehicle.

Officers found his presence suspicious, particularly a hoodie that he was sporting despite the hot weather. Further scrutiny of CCTV footage from areas surrounding the fort allegedly showed the same man in the vicinity of the incident site, News18 Marathi reported.

According to police, this discovery established a possible link between the man and Goyal, leading investigators to intensify questioning.

Police said Goyal later confessed to her role in the crime. Investigators believe the CCTV footage and the movements of the hooded man played a crucial role in unravelling the alleged murder conspiracy.

‘Siya Goyal was unhappy with the alliance’

Police said the wedding between Siya Goyal and Ketan Agarwal had been arranged by their families, and both had initially agreed to the alliance. Preparations for the wedding were reportedly underway on a grand scale, with special flights booked for guests and a venue reserved in Jaipur.

However, investigators claimed that Siya was in a relationship with another man. According to police, she was unwilling to proceed with the marriage and eventually decided to eliminate what she saw as an obstacle to her relationship.

3 visits to Lohagad Fort

According to police, Goyal and Agarwal first went trekking to Lohagad Fort on May 31, where investigators believe she may have conceived the plan to kill him and pass it off as an accident. The couple returned to the fort on June 14, accompanied by Chaudhary, but their alleged attempt to murder the businessman was unsuccessful. Police said the duo finally executed the plan during another visit to the fort on June 18.
