Punjab Congress Leader Khushbaz Jattana Killed In Sonipat Road Accident

Police said Jattana’s body has been kept at Sonipat Civil Hospital. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, though the vehicle has been identified.

Punjab Congress leader Khushbaz Singh Jattana and his driver was killed on Thursday evening after a truck hit his stationary SUV in Kundli in Haryana’s Sonipat district, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place when Jattana was travelling from Delhi to his home in Bhatinda, Punjab.

Police said the truck rammed Jattana’s vehicle from behind on the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal Expressway. The SUV had been parked on the roadside as they were fixing a deflated tyre, they added.

Jattana (45), who unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Assembly elections from the Talwandi Sabo seat in 2017 and 2022, served as the Congress district president for Bathinda Rural.

Police said Jattana’s body has been kept at Sonipat Civil Hospital. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, though the vehicle has been identified.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Kundli police station, Sethi Malik, said, “Today, we received information from the control room that around 5:10, a Defender vehicle carrying Khushbaz Singh Jatana, his driver, and a gunman met with an accident involving an unknown truck."

Confirming the casualties, Malik said, “Both Jatana and his driver, Parminder, passed away, while the gunman was injured." He further noted that another person assisting in changing the tyre was also injured and is undergoing medical treatment.

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring expressed sorrow over Jattana’s demise.

“It is sad and extremely devastating for us that we have lost a dynamic and promising young leader Khushbaz Jattana in a tragic road accident today," he posted on X.

Entire Congress party stands by the family in this tragic and devastating moment of shock and grief for all of us, he said.

“It is difficult to believe that Khushbaz is no longer with us. This is an irreparable loss for all of us. He has left a vacuum in our lives which can never be filled. May Waheguru bless his soul and provide courage to the family to deal with this devastating tragedy," said Warring.
