Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the state government decided to waive the fare for all students travelling in Punjab Roadways buses to reach their respective examination centres.

In a post on X in Punjabi, Mann said many poor students take the NEET examination and some of them cannot afford travel expenses to reach exam centres.

“When Arvind Kejriwal spoke to the NEET students recently, they requested help. Therefore, the Punjab government has decided to waive the fare for all students taking the NEET exam in all Punjab Roadways buses on June 20, 21 and 22. Show your admit card and you won't be charged a ticket,” Mann said.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), conducted on May 3, was cancelled following allegations of irregularities in the examination process.

After the cancellation, several NEET aspirants raised concerns about financial difficulties and mental stress. On Tuesday, Kejriwal said he would request Mann to make bus travel free for candidates appearing for the re-examination in Punjab.

In a video posted on X, Kejriwal said more than 50 lakh people watched his earlier video seeking feedback and suggestions on the NEET issue. He said thousands of students shared concerns about anxiety, depression and frustration after the examination was cancelled and rescheduled for June 21.

Addressing complaints regarding travel expenses, Kejriwal said some students told him they did not have enough money to pay for bus fare.

“Some children have written that they do not have enough money to afford bus fare. I am going to Punjab tomorrow and will speak to Bhagwant Mann so that at least in Punjab, bus travel can be made free for students on the day of the examination,” he said.
