The annual Pavitrotsavam is currently under way at the famed Sri Kodandaramalayam in Vontimitta in Kadapa district, which is under the management of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
‘Pavitrotsavam’ is a purificatory ceremony performed in the sanctum sanctorum of temples to ward off the evil effects, if any, caused by oversight or due to inadvertent lapses that might have occurred, and finally, to restore the temple’s sanctity.
As part of the three-day event, the sacred multi-coloured silk thread ‘Pavitram’ was adorned to the deities and certain sacrificial rituals conducted at Vontimitta.
Rituals like Chatushtana Archana, Pavitra Homam and Sathumora were conducted, followed by a celestial bath (Snapana Tirumanjanam) to the deities of Kodandarama, Sita and Lakshma with milk, curd, honey, turmeric and sandal paste.
