‘Q’ Branch policeman, wife robbed at knifepoint on Salem-Kochi Highway near Coimbatore

In yet another case of robbery on Salem-Kochi Highway (NH 544) in Coimbatore district, three men assaulted a policeman attached to the ‘Q’ Branch of Tamil Nadu Police with weapons and robbed him and his wife of jewellery early Sunday (July 6, 2025) morning.

The robbers targeted head constable V. Parthiban, 45, a resident of Pillaiyar Kovil Road at R.G. Pudur near Chinniyampalayam, and his wife.

The police said three unidentified men intercepted the car of Mr. Parthiban near a bakery on the bypass close to Venkitapuram ground at 12.10 a.m. when they were returning home after dinner. Unaware of the fact that Mr. Parthiban is a policeman attached to the ‘Q’ Branch, Coimbatore city, they threatened him and his wife with weapons, including a sickle and a knife.

According to the police, Mr. Parthiban was forcibly made to get out of the car and one of the accused assaulted him with a sickle, inflicting injuries on his head and left shoulder.

The robbers snatched one gold chain, one bracelet and three gold rings amounting to a little over five sovereigns from Mr. Parthiban and his wife. They fled the spot after the robbery.

Mr. Parthiban immediately informed the police control room, following which the Inspector of Karumathampatti police station, who was the night rounds officer, reached the spot.

The injured policeman was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

The police said the robbery took place within the limits of the Sulur police station, where a complaint was lodged. The police have launched an investigation to trace the robbers.
