TNNRaipur: Indian Railways on Wednesday approved a ₹226-crore project to upgrade signalling infrastructure on the Durg-Taroki section of the South East Central Railway’s Raipur division by replacing the existing Panel Interlocking (PI) system with modern electronic interlocking (EI) at 13 stations.The upgrade will cover Marauda, Risama, Gundardehi, Latabor, Balod, Kusumkasa, Dalli Rajhara, Gudum, Bhanupratappur, Keoti, Antagarh, Taroki and the Raipur Store Depot.Railway officials said EI will automate route setting and signalling functions with advanced safety features, reducing the risk of signalling failures while improving operational flexibility and reliability. The system is also expected to minimise disruptions and enable quicker restoration of train services in case of faults.The project is expected to enhance the safety, punctuality and efficiency of train operations on the Durg-Taroki route, which serves both passenger and freight traffic. The sanction is part of Indian Railways’ nationwide programme to modernise signalling systems through advanced technology to support safer and more efficient rail operations.
