Rain risk: Harsil thana shifted to PWD guest house

Uttarkashi: In a proactive move against mounting monsoon-related risks, the Harsil police station has been temporarily relocated to the local PWD rest house as a precautionary measure.The relocation was executed following directives from SP Kamlesh Upadhyay, who visited the site on Tuesday to personally inspect the situation and oversee emergency safety arrangements.Expressing zero tolerance for negligence as river water levels rise, Upadhyay instructed that critical, ongoing protective works along the riverbank—including drainage channelisation and the construction of safety walls and wire-crate structures—be completed on an urgent, priority basis to effectively curb soil erosion.The SP also directed the personnel to monitor the Bhagirathi river’s water levels round the clock and remain fully prepared to evacuate the local population to safer areas at short notice. He emphasized that tight, inter-departmental coordination is crucial to executing swift and effective action during a disaster.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deputy commandant Sunil Kumar and assistant commandant Raju S Dhapola were also present during the inspection.
