A pre-wedding photo shoot ended in tragedy after a man drowned in a lake at a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at Gori Dham, a tourist and religious site located in the Aravali hills in Rajasmand. The victim, Arjun Damami, a resident of Chittorgarh, had visited the spot with his fiance and her uncle, police said.
According to officials, the uncle remained near the temple premises while Damami and his fiance went towards the lower section of the site for a photo shoot. During the visit, Damami reportedly went near a lake to bathe but slipped and fell into the deep water.
His fiance immediately raised an alarm, prompting nearby visitors to rush to the spot and alert authorities.
Police and local administration officials launched a search operation soon after the incident. However, efforts to locate him on Tuesday were hampered by darkness and the depth of the lake.
A specialised team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was subsequently called in from Udaipur. On Wednesday morning, the SDRF, along with the Rajsamand Civil Defence team, resumed the search operation and recovered Damami's body after several hours of effort.
The recovery operation proved challenging as the lake was located in a difficult-to-access area. Villagers and police personnel worked together to transport the body from the ravine-like section to the top of a steep hill.
Following a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation into the incident.
