JAISALMER: A 25-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by relatives of a married woman while the two were reportedly attempting to leave the village together early Friday morning, police said.
The deceased and the woman were allegedly in a relationship for the past three years.The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Barmer Rural Police Station. According to police, the victim, identified as Magaram (25), a member of the Bhil community and a resident of Sanwalor village in Chohtan, had reached the woman’s village by taxi around 5 am.Police said the 32-year-old woman, who is married and has six children, was alone at home with her children as her husband had gone to Barmer for work.
The two were allegedly preparing to leave the village when members of the woman’s in-laws’ family spotted them.According to the preliminary investigation, the relatives allegedly intercepted the two and attacked Magaram with sticks and clubs. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, police said. The accused allegedly fled after the incident, while the woman returned to her home.Barmer Rural Station House Officer Vikram Charan said the woman’s husband informed police that he was away in Barmer when the incident took place.
When he returned home on Friday morning, he found Magaram’s body lying near the house and alerted the police.During the investigation, police found that Magaram and the woman had allegedly been in a relationship for nearly three years. Investigators suspect the two had planned to leave together while the woman’s husband was away.Police reached the spot, took the body into custody and shifted it to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.SHO Vikram Charan said a search has been launched to trace the remaining accused. Based on the complaint filed by Magaram’s family and the preliminary investigation, two suspects have been detained, while further legal action is underway. The investigation is continuing.
