'Ramzan Mubarak': PM Modi Wishes 'Peace, Prosperity' In Holy Month Message

Ramzan will begin in India on Thursday after the crescent moon marking the start of the holy month was sighted in several parts of the country on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his greetings on the occasion of Ramzan, wishing peace and prosperity for all.

Sharing a message on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Ramzan Mubarak! May this auspicious month further the spirit of togetherness in our society. May there be peace and prosperity everywhere."

Ramzan will begin in India on Thursday after the crescent moon marking the start of the holy month was sighted in several parts of the country on Wednesday. With the sighting of the moon, Muslims will observe fasting from dawn to dusk for the next 30 days.

Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk’s Fatehpuri Mosque, Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, announced that the moon had been sighted and confirmed that the month of fasting would begin from February 19.

Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Shaban Bukhari, also declared that the crescent had been seen.

Ramzan is observed by Muslims in India and across the world as a sacred month of fasting, prayer and reflection. During this period, special evening prayers known as Taraweeh are offered in mosques.

Over the course of the month, the entire Quran is recited during these prayers, which continue until the sighting of the Eid moon.

Mufti Mukarram has urged members of the Muslim community to pray for the well-being of the country’s 140 crore people during the holy month.
