Ranchi: The stage was set on Friday for a high-pitched campaigning for the Ranchi mayoral election on Feb 23 as the candidates were allotted their respective election symbols. The district election officials said 11 candidates who are contesting for the mayor’s post were allotted election symbols.Rama Khalko, who is being backed by the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, was allotted bench as her election symbol while Roshni Khalko, who is being backed by the BJP, was allotted biscuit as her symbol.Other mayoral candidates include Kiran Kumari (air conditioner), Devi Dayal Munda (stick), Praveen Kachhap (bangles), Vinod Kumar Badaik (torch), Sujata Kashyap (box), Sujit Vijay Anand Kujur (bricks), Sumankant Tigga (bucket), Surendra Linda (camera) and Sonu Khalkho (carpet).Confirming the completion of the process, a district election official said, “As per the directions of the State Election Commission, the allocation of election symbols to mayoral and ward candidates was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner in the presence of the returning officers.”After receiving the symbol, Rama reached out to voters, describing her symbol as a reflection of her public journey. “The bench symbol represents education, justice, equality and community unity.

It mirrors my commitment to inclusive development and transparent governance in Ranchi,” she said.With symbols finalised, political activity has intensified across the city. Candidates are now expected to ramp up door-to-door outreach, ward-level meetings and public interactions, as the Ranchi mayoral contest enters a decisive campaign phase ahead of polling.
