Ranchi: Nearly three weeks after a 27-year-old man’s decapitated, half-burnt body was recovered from a forest area in Ranchi district, police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the murder case by arresting his wife and her lover on Monday.
The accused were identified as Subodhini Devi, 26, and Raman Kumar Seth, 34.The body of Sanjay Lohra, a resident of Majhitola, was recovered from Mahadeotand forest area under Bundu police station limits on June 19, a day after he was allegedly killed.SP (rural) Gaurav Goswami said, “A special investigation team (SIT), which was formed following the recovery of the body, traced and arrested the two accused based on technical evidence and intelligence inputs.
The duo confessed to the murder. They said that they were in a relationship for the past two years, which Sanjay found out. Hence, Subodhini conspired with Raman and his associates to eliminate him.”“On June 18, Subodhini asked Sanjay to accompany her to a relative’s wedding at Sonahatu. The couple set out on a motorcycle, but she stopped near a riverbank on the pretext of answering nature’s call. Raman and two accomplices allegedly arrived in a car and assaulted Sanjay with lathis, killing him on the spot.
The accused then transported the body to Mahadeotand forest, where they allegedly severed the victim’s head with a sharp weapon and partially burnt the lower portion of the body before dumping it.
The accused buried the head at Tamar,” Goswami added.While Subodhini was arrested from her house, Raman was caught near Doria More in Tamar on Monday. A sharp weapon and the car allegedly used in the crime have been seized, police said.Based on information provided by the two accused, police recovered the victim’s head. Efforts are under way to arrest the two accomplices involved in the crime, police added.
