Chiefs fans react to Rashee Rice’s potential 6-game ba.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice may just be looking at a six-game suspension as the NFL pushes to impose discipline following his involvement in a high-profile car crash earlier this year.
The league is aiming for the suspension to begin in Week 1, which means that Rice could be sidelined when the Chiefs open their season against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil on September 5. The expected suspension falls under the league’s personal conduct policy. The NFL wants the matter resolved before the start of the regular season and if an agreement is reached with Rice and his representatives, the punishment could begin immediately.
However, if no agreement is reached before the scheduled hearing, Rice would remain eligible to play the first four games of the season before any potential punishment is enforced. Fans were quick to react to the development on social media.
Kansas City Chiefs fans react to Rushee Rice's NFL suspension amid car crash case
After news broke that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will be suspended for six games to start the 2025 NFL season, fans quickly took to X to share mixed reactions. Some were relieved the matter was finally settled, with one writing, “Glad this is resolved,” while others felt the punishment was either too light or too harsh.
“Thought it would be 8,” one user commented, suggesting they expected a longer suspension.
A harsher take read, “He is meant to be expelled,” while another said, “He shouldn’t play this whole season.” Others focused on what this means for the Chiefs’ offense without their top wideout, writing, “Yikes, missing those games? They’re definitely gonna struggle without him,” and asking, “How will Mahomes adjust without him?”
When is the NFL disciplinary hearing for Rashee Rice scheduled for?
Rashee Rice’s case will be heard by the former U.S. District Judge Sue L.
Robinson, who now oversees disciplinary matters jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association. Robinson is expected to preside over the hearing on September 30 in New York. This will be just the second high-profile disciplinary case she has handled, the first being Deshaun Watson's in 2022. This timeline creates a scenario where Rice could play in the first few games of the 2025 season depending on whether the suspension terms are agreed to before the hearing.
All about the Rushee Rice accident case
In March, Rushee Rice was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas after speeding in a luxury sports car, which led to several injuries. He initially fled the scene before later surrendering to authorities. In July, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing causing bodily injury. As part of his sentence, Rice received 30 days in jail, five years' probation and was ordered to pay restitution.
However, he was granted deferred adjudication, meaning the charges could be dismissed if he successfully completes probation without further legal issues. Also read: Veteran WR Adam Thielen reunites with Minnesota Vikings after being released by Carolina Panthers in surprise mid-camp NFL tradeDepending on the final ruling, the Chiefs may be forced to begin the season without one of their most promising young weapons.
