Rayalaseema Bagundedi Sadhana Samithi president Bojja Dasaratha Rami Reddy on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) urged authorities to conserve water in the Srisailam Dam and ensure immediate release to the KC Canal ayacut to safeguard irrigation and drinking water needs in Rayalaseema.
Submitting a representation to district Collector Rajakumari on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy, along with Samithi leaders, highlighted concerns over water management and the need to protect regional water rights. He emphasised that decisions on water release must align with existing Government Orders, the Bachawat Tribunal provisions, and the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
The delegation pointed out that farmers had already taken up extensive rabi cultivation before the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting. In this context, they appealed for the immediate release of water to the KC Canal through the Muchumarri and Malyala lift irrigation schemes to prevent crop loss.
They also proposed supplying drinking water up to Nandyal via the Alaganur canal along the Kundu river basin. Stressing the importance of conservation, the leaders urged that water levels in the Srisailam reservoir should not fall below 854 feet and called for a halt to power generation to preserve reserves.
Citing the possibility of drought next year, they pressed for prioritising drinking and irrigation needs. The Collector assured that the concerns would be conveyed to the government and that steps would be taken regarding water release, according to a press release.
