The 37-year-old Rodriguez was an unused sub against the Real Madrid and expressed his frustration about not being brought on after the side's 1-2 defeat to the Capital City giants.

La Liga side RCD Mallorca have suspended skipper Dani Rodriguez in addition to stripping him of the captaincy following his complaints over being benched in the team’s fixture against Real Madrid.

The 37-year-old was an unused sub against the Capital City side and expressed his frustration about not being brought on after the side’s 1-2 defeat to the Madrid giants.

“Mallorca has suspended the employment and salary of the player Dani Rodriguez," the club said.

“The club also strips the footballer of the captaincy with immediate effect," Mallorca added in their statement.

Rodriguez expressed his frustrations after Jan Virgili, who arrived at the club from Barcelona towards the end of the trnsfer window, was brought on in the second half of the game.

“I hope Jan succeeds here and between all of us we can help him, but something like this sends a horrible message to the dressing room, that work, delivery and loyalty don’t matter," the skipper said.

“It hurts that a player who just got here, with one training session, has the chance to play ahead of team-mates who have been here for years defending this shirt with sweat and labour, putting the club above everything" he added.
